A program for youth between the ages of 12-18, the cadet program offers once in a lifetime opportunities that develop leadership, citizenship, and self-confidence.
Our History
One of 450 Cadet Corps across Canada, #41 Port Perry High School Cadet Corps is the fourth oldest in Canada. Port Perry High School Cadet Corps was formed on 28 Nov 1898 (GO 108/1898) and given No 41 in the Militia Lists of 1904. After 1913, the corps was not mentioned in Militia Orders until 1949, however, this is not an indication of inactivity, and corps records indicate the continued operation of the corps. In 1949, No. 41 Port Perry High School Cadet Corps became affiliated with the Ontario Regiment (RCAC). During the 1950’s, the Cadet Corps became a compulsory program at PPHS, and each student was issued a uniform and expected to participate in formal drills and routines on Friday nights. . It’s sponsor became the Durham Board of Education pre 1983. On 3 April 1998, Branch 419 Royal Canadian Legion was approved as a co-sponsor of the Corps.
The Cadets, which have counted up to 40 members during their most recent existence at the High School, are active at events in the Scugog community, particularly at Remembrance Day ceremonies, celebrations and parades. The Corps has also been recognized for their environmental initiatives around the Township of Scugog.
